The Salvation Army’s goal is to make
sure that no child goes to school hungry, no parent has to disappoint his/her child on Christmas morning, and no senior citizen
has to choose between groceries and his/her medications. The Army
is currently developing more programs than any other social service organization in the county, and nationally it was
last estimated that eighty-four cents of every dollar donated went back into their programs and services.
A few of its strategies for helping families in
our community succeed are:
Daily Emergency Assistance: Short-term financial assistance. Includes help with rent, utilities, food, furniture, car repairs, clothing and more.
Medical Program: Provides emergency medical and medication assistance
to the needy.
Senior Care: Daily activities including day-care, trips to shop and securing medical help, etc.
Family Store: The Family Store operated where
families may purchase clothing, furniture, and other essentials at affordable prices. Generosity from the community helps
generate revenue.
Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Vouchers: Grocery store gift card vouchers are given to individuals and families in need of food.
Thanksgiving Meal: Share a nourishing, warm meal with those in need. Many local restaurants and families assist by preparing, donating
and serving warm food items.
Angel Tree Program : Each year during the Christmas season, families and
individuals purchase Christmas gifts of clothing, shoes, toys and other gifts for needy children and elderly. Local businesses
and churches provide “Angel Tree” sites.
Tools for School Program: Children receive such essentials as clothes, shoes, notebooks, and backpacks with which to return to school.
Community Care: Volunteers make or purchase small gifts and deliver them to elderly residents in need of love, attention and companionship.
Men’s and Women’s Ministry: Regular worship, community service, fellowship, and education with a light supper served.
Camps: Bible classes, arts and crafts, music, and a variety of outdoor activities, e.g. swimming and hiking. Character building
is an essential component of these camp programs.
Weekly Worship Services & Sunday School: Families nourish their spirits while enjoying meaningful fellowship with their
neighbors.
